Bus transportation will continue for students who are registered for before or after school care at Wee Care Learning Center.  Bus route transportation will be arranged for these students. However, students who are not registered at Wee Care will no longer be able to use the Wee Care parking lot as a bus shuttle stop.

VWCS RESTRICTED HOURS / SCHOOL ZONE FLASHERS

The speed limit of the school zone on State Route 118 South (between Van Wert Middle / High School and Van Wert Elementary School) is reduced to 20 MPH during the following times:

7:35 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.

2:35 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

 

The speed limit of the school zone on E. Ervin Rd. (in front of the Van Wert Early Childhood Center) is reduced to 20 MPH during the following times:

7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

 

*Restricted hours will be adjusted to accommodate school delays.

Roads are becoming busier and distractions more complex, causing students to be more at risk than ever before. A 2019 NASDPTS survey identified 95,000 illegal passes across 39 states in a single day; that's over 17 million near misses in one school year.

Van Wert High School’s FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) students are raising awareness for the growing concern of bus safety after receiving a $1,000 grant from Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS).

School bus transportation plays a critical role in the education of Ohio’s children, and National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 21-25, serves as a reminder for students, parents, teachers and the community about the importance of keeping our children safe.

9/27/19 Troopers to Ride Buses to Catch Stop Arm Violators

School has been back in session for a few weeks but already bus drivers have been reporting violations of safety laws. Van Wert City Schools Assistant Superintendent Bill Clifton surveyed their 13 bus drivers and found that so far this year around 40-50 people have run the bus stop lights.
